IP address lookup

See which network an IP address belongs to, its approximate country, and its reverse DNS name.

Choosing a check opens its page. With the keyboard, use the arrow keys, then press Enter.

What we check

For a public IPv4 or IPv6 address we show the network it belongs to (its autonomous system number and organisation), its approximate country and continent, and its reverse DNS name, checked against the address. The network and country come from IPinfo's free IPinfo Lite data, which we keep on our own server: the address you look up isn't sent to anyone.

How accurate is it?

The network is usually exact. The country is approximate: it shows where the network is registered or routed. People using VPNs, mobile networks, company networks or privacy relays often appear in another country. An IP address can't identify a person or a street address.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the country?

It is approximate. It shows where the network is registered or routed, which is usually but not always where its users are. VPNs, mobile networks, company networks and privacy relays often appear in another country.

Can this find a person or a street address?

No. An IP address can be linked to a network and, roughly, a country. It can't identify a person or a home.

What is an ASN?

An Autonomous System Number identifies a network that runs its own routing on the internet, such as an internet provider, a hosting company or a large organisation. "AS15169", for example, is Google.

Where does the data come from?

From IPinfo's free IPinfo Lite database, which we keep on our own server and update regularly. Lookups are made on our server; the address isn't sent to IPinfo.

Do you keep the addresses I look up?

No. The result is cached for up to an hour so repeated lookups are quick, under a key that doesn't contain the address, and our usage counts never include it.
